A networking lunch in Scotland will take place on Monday, 24th May at 12.30pm at the Nawaabs
Tandoori in Aberdeen. The evening will be hosted by restaurant owner Gulam Kibria Owes and
will also be attended by the Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.
A complimentary lunch will be followed by speeches and a discussion on the present situation

partnership with Parliamentary Outreach, in major cities across the UK to help SMEs in the
South Asian catering sector and individuals become more connected with the parliamentary
process.

How to Get Involved with the Parliamentary Process

The training day is part of a series of sessions organised by the FoBC and Parliamentary
Outreach for SMEs in the South Asian catering sector.
Any caterer or businessperson in the South Asian restaurant sector is invited to attend. The
theme of the workshop is 'How to Contact Your MP' and focuses on the best ways for small
business owners and restaurateurs to understand the legislative process and get their voice
heard at parliamentary level.
The event will feature presentations and speeches by leading MPs - MP for Wallington and
Carshalton, Tom Brake and experts on parliamentary procedure and there will be plenty
of opportunity for discussion about what the government could be doing to support small
businesses associated with the catering sector.
The second part of the session focuses on the young generation and includes a discussion on
how to encourage new people to enter the South Asian restaurant trade.

House of Commons Networking Dinner & Launch of Asian Curry Awards
The FoBC is holding a networking dinner at the House of Commons on 7th July, 2011 to discuss
issues facing the Asian restaurant sector and to launch the brand new Asian Curry Awards, organised
by the FoBC.
Hosted by Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, the guest list includes prominent
restaurateurs, business owners, politicians, VIPs and distinguished figures from Asian embassies and
consulates.
The Asian Curry Awards are designed to celebrate the achievement of the South Asian
restaurants across the UK. They will recognise restaurants serving exceptional quality curry cuisine,
demonstrating the innovation, commitment and success that have turned Britain into the diverse,
multicultural gastronomic centre of today.
The Federation is currently working with major restaurant to unite curry cuisines of all countries and
awards will be presented at the 2nd FoBC Gala Dinner and 1st Asian Curry Awards Ceremony on
Sunday, 16th October.
Restaurants specialising in curry cuisine will be nominated by the general public across the whole of
the UK and shortlisted for first, second and third prize in ten separate regions with awards going to
restaurants exhibiting exceptional quality, outstanding achievement, innovation and success. There
will also be a first, second and third award for the Young Restaurateur of the Year 2011 in the South
Asian restaurant sector.
